What Happens to Your Website If You Cancel GoHighLevel?

Hosted pages stop working when the account closes. Cancel day does not have to be delete day — but the order of operations matters, and most of it has to happen while the account is still live.

    The question every prospect asks

On GoHighLevel's Ideas board, an agency owner explains that prospects always ask him “what happens if I cancel, do I keep the website?” — and that he builds on WordPress instead because of it. On a second thread, another agency points out that if he builds a hundred client sites and cancels his subscription, “they all will loose their website”.

That is the actual stake. Not a feature request — a sales objection that is currently losing people work.

What stops working when you cancel

Hosted pages are served by GoHighLevel. When the account closes, they stop being served. Anything else living in the platform goes with it: contacts, workflows, form submissions, calendars, and any automation wired to those pages. A domain pointed at GHL will resolve to nothing.

    What exports and what doesn't
Part of your siteComes with you?Detail
The rendered front end — pages, layout, copy, images, fontsYesComes out as a clean project you can host anywhere.
CRM records and contactsNoStay in GoHighLevel. Export them separately from inside the platform.
Workflows and automationsNoDo not come with the site. They have to be rebuilt on whatever you move to.
Form and survey backendsNoThe form markup comes across; the thing that receives a submission does not. It needs repointing at a new service.
Calendars, payments and checkoutNoPlatform features, not page content. Reconnect them to new providers.
Editing inside GHL's builder afterwardsNoAn exported site is edited as files, not in the builder it came from. GoHighLevel's own support article says the same.

Do this before you cancel, not after

Every step below needs a live account. Once the subscription lapses, there is nothing left to export from.

    1. Export contacts and any form or survey submissions from inside GoHighLevel. These are separate from the website and nothing else will fetch them for you.
    2. Write down which workflows and automations are live and what they do. They are not coming with you, so this list is your rebuild spec.
    3. Pull the front end of every site you want to keep, and deploy each one to hosting you own. With Hatch that is the extension, then the wizard, then a live URL on your own GitHub and Cloudflare.
    4. Repoint forms at a new handler and test one submission end to end on the new site.
    5. Only then move the domain, confirm the new site is serving it, and close the account.

    Reconnecting forms afterwards

An exported form is markup: fields, labels and a submit button. What it no longer has is somewhere to post to. Pick a form service or endpoint you control, change the form's action, and send a real test submission before anyone else does. This is the single most common thing people forget, and it fails silently — the form still looks like it worked.

    If you are not leaving

Doing all of this and then staying is a perfectly good outcome. You end up with a live mirror of every client site on hosting you own, which is a backup GoHighLevel does not offer and an answer to the ownership question you can give at the next sales call.
